Have questions about becoming a certified teacher in Indiana?

All you have to pay to get started is $115*! This up-front cost gives you immediate access to your online training and all the resources you need to get started. The remaining balance of $4,250 is due in equal installments once you are hired, and is completely contingent upon you getting hired. If you don’t get hired as a teacher, you don’t pay the remaining program cost.

No, the CASA exam is no longer a state required exam. You can find further testing information on our Testing Page.

For the SAT, starting here can help get your older report. For the ACT, look here. Note that Indiana Teachers doesn’t have a college code. Make sure you have the ACT report sent to yourself, and then send it to us.

If you do our training and decide teaching is not for you, the remaining balance of the program fee is not due. It is completely contingent upon getting hired.

You are eligible to begin looking for a teaching position as soon as you are admitted into our program and have submitted your CPR/AED/Heimlich Maneuver and Youth Suicide Prevention certificates.

Once you have been hired, you will submit an “I Got a Job” form to Indiana Teachers, and your employing corporation, private, or charter school will submit a verification of your employment to us. Once verified, Indiana Teachers will provide you with a Letter of Eligibility to apply for the Transition to Teaching Permit.

You can send your official transcripts multiple ways. The quickest method to get started is for your university to send official transcripts electronically to Transcripts@INTeachers.org. If your university does not have this as an option, you can mail official transcripts to our office at:

The length of the program is up to you! Our online training is flexible and on-demand, so if you are currently working it’s not a problem at all. You will ultimately need to teach two full years, but once you’re admitted and submit the proper certifications, you can begin looking for your new career when you’re ready.

Certification varies state to state, so contact each state’s department of education that you are looking to move to so you can verify the reciprocation process.

A Transition to Teaching permit is valid for 3 years and is nonrenewable. An Initial Practitioner’s license is valid for 2 years and can be renewed twice or upgraded to 5-year Practitioner’s license through completion of the IMAP program through your school corporation.

Field Based Experiences are introductory experiences for a classroom teacher certification candidate involving reflective observation of P-12 students, teachers, and faculty/staff members engaging in educational activities in a school setting. Thirty hours of FBEs are required, either in-person or online through our Canvas training system.

No, you do not need classroom experience prior to submitting your application to Indiana Teachers. Our program is designed for all types of candidates, including those who have never stepped foot inside a classroom. If you don’t have any classroom experience, Indiana Teachers encourages you to explore our Classroom Readiness training once admitted to familiarize yourself with the art of teaching.

Yes, you will be required to complete a fingerprinting background check through the Indiana Department of Education to receive a Transition to Teaching permit.

All you pay to get started is $245, the remaining balance of $4,250 is due once you are hired. It is then paid back throughout your first year of teaching over a ten-month period.

During your internship year, you are paid as a full-time teacher of record with benefits.
