Step. 3 Teach

You’ve mastered your content area test(s) and Classroom Readiness Training – congrats! Shake off those butterflies and prepare to teach. You’ve invested a lot to get to this point and you’re ready. It’s time to secure your first-year teaching position on a Residency License. During your first year, you’ll work as a full-time teacher, earning full pay and benefits (it’s the real deal).

For any questions along the way, we’ve got your back. You’ll be paired with a Field Supervisor to help guide you. Take advantage of having a skilled educator to offer support and advice; they’re there to help! While you teach your first two full academic semesters in a North Carolina classroom, you’ll also finish your Excellence in Teaching and Learning training modules. You’re so close!

Step 4. Earn Your License!

An entire year of teaching in a classroom is a huge accomplishment. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. If necessary, you’ll also have an additional year to complete your portfolio-based assessment. We’ll walk you through what this is during the program.

Next, pending the recommendation of your Principal and Field Supervisor, it’s time to upgrade your teacher status. This is the proud moment where North Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow provides you with a letter of completion along with a transcript of your completed coursework.

The rest is up to you. With these documents, you may now apply for your North Carolina Initial Professional Educator’s License. Once you have it, get out there and teach for a better tomorrow!

A lot can happen in a year. Are you ready to change your future for the better?
