TX TEA update blog

  What Is Happening?

Changes to your program requirements are on the horizon, and Texas Teachers is here to keep you informed. To remain in compliance with the Texas Administrative Code 19 §228.35, Texas Teachers will be updating the six performance-based projects, TNT 700.1P – TNT 700.6P. Currently, these six projects may be completed any time during the internship year. Beginning November 20, 2021, the current projects will expire and be replaced with seven new projects that must be completed BEFORE the internship year. If you have not successfully completed ALL six current projects prior to this date, you will be required to complete ALL seven new projects. The seven new projects will be available beginning November 30, 2021.

  Why Is This Happening?

The Texas Administrative Code requires that candidates “demonstrate proficiency” in several areas prior to receiving a Statement of Eligibility and being hired. As a result, the six current projects will be retired on November 20, 2021, and seven new projects will replace them.

  Who Is Impacted?

Interns who have TNT 700.1P – TNT 700.6P are impacted. You will find your projects under the Projects tab on your Training Progress page. You may disregard this message if you have TNT 700.7 as your project.

  How Will This Impact You?

Two groups of candidates are impacted:

Group A: Candidates currently teaching on an active Intern Certificate
Group B: Candidates NOT currently teaching on an active Intern Certificate

GROUP A: Candidates Currently Teaching on an Active Intern Certificate

If you are currently employed by a district and teaching on an intern or probationary certificate, it is in your best interest to complete all the current projects (TNT 700.1P – TNT 700.6P) before November 20, 2021. This will allow you to complete fewer projects, as currently there are only six projects. Once the projects are updated, there will be seven new projects.

Our recommendations:

If you have NOT completed any projects/only completed some projects, we recommend you complete all remaining projects before the deadline to avoid starting over with the new projects. Because the projects are changing, credit will not be granted for previously completed projects unless all six are complete and your projects are checked off on the What’s Next Checklist in the Intern Portal.

If you have already completed all the projects under the Project tab on the Training Progress page of your portal, you will not need to complete any further projects.

For any questions regarding these changes, please contact your field supervisor, or send us an email at curriculumsupport@texasteachers.org.

GROUP B: Candidates NOT Currently Teaching on an Active Intern Certificate

If you are currently working toward completing your pre-service requirements (testing, training courses & classroom observations), and are NOT on an active Intern Certificate, you fall into one of several different groups of candidates listed below. Please determine which group best describes you below before determining how to proceed with completing your projects.

Our recommendations:

If you currently have access to your Statement of Eligibility (SOE), all six of the current projects must be completed by November 20, 2021, to keep access to this document that allows you to be hired. If all six of the current projects are not successfully completed by the deadline, you will lose access to your SOE and will no longer be eligible for hire. This will require you to complete all seven of the new projects, once available, to regain access to your SOE and become eligible for hire again. We recommend you complete all your pre-service training courses and intern projects before the deadline to keep access to your SOE and your “eligible for hire” status.

If you have completed most of the required pre-service courses and/or projects, we recommend you work quickly to finish out the remaining training courses and projects before November 20, 2021. This will prevent you from starting over and completing the seven replacement projects.

If you have completed some of the required pre-service courses and/or projects, you will want to determine if you are able to complete all remaining training courses and projects by November 20, 2021. This may require you to work harder/faster to meet the deadline but can be achieved if you set your mind to it! Please do not attempt to complete these projects unless you have completed your Required Courses training tab.

If you have completed very few of the required pre-service courses and/or projects, we recommend you wait until the new projects arrive to begin working on them. Successfully completing all training courses and all projects takes time and we do not want you to rush through the material. We encourage you to focus on completing all your training courses and then complete the new projects, once available, for the highest chance of success in passing the projects.

 Keep In Mind…

The projects align with the pre-service training courses and will be very difficult to complete if you have NOT completed your training courses before starting the projects. We highly encourage you to complete your training courses before you begin completing the projects.

We look forward to supporting you in this endeavor!
