Texas Teachers’ Program Glossary<\/h1>\n

You\u2019ve likely discovered the world of teaching is comprised of countless acronyms and we know that we\u2019ve thrown a whole lot of Texas Teachers Program terminology your way! Once you learn one, you encounter three more. If you\u2019ve found yourself wondering what something means, we\u2019re here to help. We\u2019ve compiled the definitive list of our program acronyms, abbreviations, and terms and have defined them for you – all in one place!<\/strong> We will continue to update this page, so be sure to bookmark it and use it as your Texas Teachers Program Glossary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Acronyms & Abbreviations<\/strong><\/td>\nDefinition<\/strong><\/td>\nContext<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
ACP<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nAlternative Certification Program (See related: EPP)<\/em><\/td>\nA type of Educator Preparation Program (EPP) that is a post-baccalaureate option for teachers who did not complete a traditional undergraduate EPP. Texas Teachers is both an ACP and EPP. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CBM<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nCurriculum-Based Measurement<\/td>\nCBM is a method used to discover and outline students’ progression in basic academic areas.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CTE<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nCareer and Technical Education (See related: TNI)<\/i><\/td>\nEducators who teach skill-based careers to students. Candidates with valid licensed work experience in a Trade and Industry (TNI) field may be eligible to apply to Texas Teachers. <\/em>Learn more.<\/em><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
DOI<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nDistrict of Innovation<\/td>\nA law passed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) which allows traditional independent school districts most of the flexibilities available to Texas’ open-enrollment charter schools. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EC<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nEarly Childhood<\/td>\nA subject area in which you can pursue certification. It may cover a range of grade levels (ex. EC-6).<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EL<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nEnrollment Letter (See related: LOE)<\/i><\/td>\nOnce you have passed a content exam, Texas Teachers’ will provide you with an Enrollment Letter (also sometimes referred to as a Letter of Enrollment). <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
ELL<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nEnglish Language Learner
\n(See related: LEP)<\/i><\/td>\n		A student who has Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and is learning the English language. It is common to work with these students as an ESL or Bilingual Education teacher. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EPP<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nEducator Preparation Program (See related: ACP)<\/i><\/td>\nA program that prepares qualified candidates to become a certified teacher. Texas Teachers of Tomorrow is an EPP.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
ESL<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nEnglish as a Second Language<\/td>\nA high-need certification area in which teachers can pursue certification. ESL refers to students to do not speak English as their native language. <\/em>Learn more.<\/em><\/a> <\/u><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
FBE<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nField-Based Experience<\/td>\nYou will be required to complete 30 FBE hours, also known as classroom observations. This will introduce you to the classroom setting as you gain teaching experience.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
IEP<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nIndividualized Education Plan<\/td>\nAn IEP is a plan or program developed to meet the specific needs of a learner with a disability. It is common for Special Education teachers to create IEPs for their students. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
LEP<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nLimited English Proficiency<\/td>\nA student who is not fluent in English.\u00a0 It is common to work with these students as an ESL or Bilingual Education teacher. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
LOE<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nLetter of Enrollment
\n(See related: EL)<\/i><\/td>\n		Once you have passed a content exam, Texas Teachers’ will provide you with a Letter of Enrollment (which is more commonly referred to as an Enrollment Letter.)<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
LOTE<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nLanguage Other Than English<\/td>\nA student whose native language is <\/em>not English. LOTE may be used to describe a teacher-candidate who is pursuing a subject area to teach a language other than English (ex. Spanish.)<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
PACT<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nPre-Admission Content Test<\/td>\nA PACT exam may be taken by candidates wishing to enroll with an EPP, such as Texas Teachers, if their GPA does not meet the minimum entrance requirement of 2.5. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
PPCD<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nPreschool Program for Children with Disabilities<\/td>\nA program that helps prepare young children with disabilities to attend school.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
PD<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nProfessional Development<\/td>\nA term used to describe continued learning, specialized training, formal education, or certifications attained to advance your career as a teacher.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
PPR<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nPedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (exam)<\/td>\nA required exam to assess your skills and knowledge as a Texas educator. All candidates must pass this exam to earn their Standard Certification. <\/em>Learn more.<\/em><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
SOE<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nStatement of Eligibility<\/td>\nBefore accepting employment, you must provide your district with an updated SOE. This confirms you have successfully completed Texas Teachers\u2019 Pre-Service training and are eligible for employment.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
SOQ<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nStatement of Qualifications<\/td>\nA form that must be submitted by candidates with valid wage-earning occupational experience, seeking program admittance to become a Career and Technical Education teacher. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

TAC<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nTexas Administrative Code<\/td>\nA compilation of all state agency rules in Texas. <\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

TEC<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nTexas Education Code<\/td>\nThe TEC is a compilation of all laws and rules passed by Texas legislature.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
TEKS<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nTexas Essential Knowledge and Skills<\/td>\nTexas state standards for public school from kindergarten to grade 12.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
TNI<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nTrade & Industrial (See related: CTE)<\/i><\/td>\nCandidates pursuing a CTE program must have technical field experience, also known as TNI experience.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
TOEFL<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\nTest of English as a Foreign Language<\/td>\nA required test of English proficiency for candidates whose native English is not English.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
