Emergency Permit to Practitioner License
To qualify for a Practitioner’s License, a candidate will need to teach for a total of two years at an accredited Indiana school. Emergency permit holders can use up to one year of their teaching experience toward this requirement. Indiana teachers are required to have a permit or license on the first day of the school year to remain compliant. If you’re enrolled in a transition to teaching program, you are qualified for a transition to teaching (three-year, non-renewable) permit. If you are not enrolled in a transition to teaching program, you should enroll at least two weeks before your school’s start date to ensure qualification for the transition to teaching permit. If you are not able to qualify for enrollment in a transition to teaching program and will be employed as a teacher during the 2022-2023 school year, please review the Indiana Department of Education’s Emergency Permits webpage to review requirements for an Emergency Permit.
