Test 156 JOUR 8-12 was discontinued by the state. The current test you have to pass is Test 256 JOUR 7-12. I passed it on my first attempt using Mometrix Test Preparation TExES Journalism 7-12 (256) Secrets (printed book). The book cost $44 on the Mometrix site, but it was worth it. It gives you 100 practice questions with detailed responses about the answers.
Testing Strategy
I was in the Journalism field for several years before I switched over to teaching high school Journalism. The questions on the test are not real-world tested. I had to ask "What does the state of Texas think I should do about this?" Not what would a real professional do. Even though digital camera and design are what most people use in school, there are a few questions about dark rooms and film cameras as well.
