Admission

WHEN CAN I START?

You can start today! We offer rolling admissions. The first step is to submit your free application.

WHAT IF MY GPA IS BELOW 2.5?

All Educator Preparation Institutes require individuals to have a GPA of a 2.5 or higher in the major area to qualify for a Temporary Certificate. If you don’t meet this requirement, you still have options outside of our program! You can pursue additional degrees at the post-bachelor level and use the updated GPA from the completed degree. We advise you to reach out to the FLDOE to see what other paths you can take for your certification journey!

WHERE / HOW DO I SEND MY TRANSCRIPTS?

You can send your official transcripts three different ways. The quickest and most reliable method is to order your transcripts using a one of the approved transcript ordering services featured on our transcripts page. The second is to request that your university send electronic official transcripts or to scan official transcripts to transcripts@floridateachers.org. Alternatively, you may send them via standard mail.

WHAT IS A GARNISHMENT WAIVER?

The Garnishment Waiver is a state-required document. If you provide more than one-half the support for a child or other dependent, all or part of your income is exempt from garnishment under Florida Law. You can waive this protection only by signing this document. To start the program, this document will need to be signed.

IS THERE A BACKGROUND CHECK INVOLVED?

Yes. A completed Background Check is part of the admission process. It is simple and free!

DO I HAVE TO BE A U.S. CITIZEN?

Yes. You need to be either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be admitted.

I DON’T GRADUATE WITH MY BACHELOR’S DEGREE UNTIL LATER THIS YEAR, WHEN CAN I START THE PROGRAM?

We recommend applying after your degree has been awarded to you and reflects that on your transcripts.

Statement of Eligibility and Teaching Certificates

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STATEMENT OF ELIGIBILITY AND A TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE?

A Statement of Eligibility (SOE) is not a certificate. The SOE is a document that outlines your certification requirements to obtain a Professional Certificate in the state of Florida. The SOE also allows you to become hired in the Subject Area for which you have applied. The Florida Department of Education lists out all requirements to be issued both a Temporary Certificate and a Professional Certificate. A Temporary Certificate is the document you receive once you have been hired with an ‘Eligible’ Statement of Eligibility.

WHAT IF MY STATEMENT OF ELIGIBILITY SAYS ‘NOT ELIGIBLE’?

If your Statement of Eligibility reflects a ‘Not Eligible’ status, the next recommended step is to take and pass your Subject Area Exam. A passing score will improve your eligibility.

WHEN DO I GET MY PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE?

You will get your Professional Certificate once you have completed the program requirements, including passing all state required exams.

DOES THIS CERTIFICATE TRANSFER TO OTHER STATES?

Certification requirements vary state to state. If you are curious to learn about reciprocation policies and procedures, please contact the state’s department of education.

WHAT IS THE CG-10 APPLICATION?

The CG-10 is the $75.00 application that you send to the Florida Department of Education to receive your Statement of Eligibility.

Our Program & State Exams

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

The length of the program is up to you! Our online training is self-paced and designed for you to complete at your own time.* You will teach in the classroom with full pay and benefits for up to a full school year while you complete your remaining program requirements.

*Please be advised that while you have the flexibility to complete your training at your own pace, there is a maximum completion duration specified in your enrollment agreement. For further details, please refer to your enrollment agreement.

WHAT IF I WANT TO START THE COURSEWORK, BUT AM NOT YET READY TO GET HIRED?

Our program is designed with you in mind. Our online coursework is available fully online and provides you with the flexibility needed to be successful. Our program allows you to complete some of the coursework online before stepping foot into the classroom. From there, you will complete your year of required teaching with us, pass all state required exams, and then finish the remaining program coursework to obtain your Professional Certificate.

WHAT TESTS DO I TAKE AS A NEW TEACHER?

There are 3 State Exams: The General Knowledge Test (GK), Professional Education Test (PEd) and the Subject Area Exam (SAE). The exam costs are not included in the price of the program. You will go through the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) to take all state exams.

DO I NEED CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE?

No, you do not need classroom experience! Our program is designed for candidates of all experience levels, including those who have never stepped inside a classroom.  We will help you learn the skills required to gain confidence and teach successfully.

WHAT SHOULD I STUDY FOR THE EXAMS? DO YOU PROVIDE STUDY MATERIALS OR HELP?

We are here to help! We have diagnostic exam reviews for all four sections of the General Knowledge Test. We will also provide you with resources to study for the Professional Education Test.

WILL I GET PAID DURING MY INTERNSHIP YEAR OF TEACHING?

Absolutely! During your internship, you will earn both full pay and full benefits as a full-time teacher of record!

WHO ISSUES MY TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE?

The Department of Education issues your Temporary Certificate. Typically, your school of employment will submit a request to the Department of Education on your behalf. We recommend discussing this with your employer to ensure you are issued your certificate in a timely fashion.
