Praxis II Subject Area Assessment

Once admitted to South Carolina Teachers, you will start preparing to pass the Praxis II Subject Area Examination (SAE) for your approved certification area. To help you prepare, we offer guidance and a list of exam preparation materials.

Along with passing your Praxis II SAE, you must also complete your online teacher training coursework, known as your Classroom Readiness Training. You have access to your Classroom Readiness Training immediately after you are enrolled.

To accept employment, you must provide your district with a Letter of Eligibility (LOE) which confirms you have completed your online training, passed your Praxis II SAE, and are eligible for hire. You can find your LOE in your Intern Portal.

"I Got a Job" Form

After you secure a teaching position, confirm your employment by submitting the “I Got a Job” form in your Intern Portal! Once verified, you may apply for your Alternative Route Certificate through the South Carolina Department of Education.

Background Check

A background check is required to submit your Alternative Certificate application. The South Carolina Department of Education requires you to submit fingerprints for a state and federal background check in order to obtain your certificate.

Alternative Route Certificate

Apply for your Alternative Route Certificate immediately after you pass your Praxis II SAE. You will need both your Letter of Eligibility and background check to submit your application. You will be issued your certificate upon hire.
