Your next steps to #GetHired

#GetHired

If you have already applied to our program and are committed to making a difference in the lives of students, then let’s get you going on the right path to certification. Our #GetHired initiative is getting more qualified teachers into schools this year. There is a real shortage of teachers in this country and together we can help solve it!

#GetHired

Pay your enrollment fee to get started. After paying your enrollment fee, you should receive a Canvas training login in your email. If you have already paid your enrollment fee but have not received an email with your Canvas login, be sure to search your inbox for “Texas Teachers” and check your junk/spam folders. If that doesn’t work, email us and request that the email be re-sent to you, or give us a call at 877.888.2640. You will also receive an email to set up your Intern Portal – your personal online dashboard to keep track of your progress toward certification.

#GetHired

Start your training right away. Once your enrollment fee is paid, you will receive immediate access to everything you need to get hired in the classroom. Log into your Intern Portal and begin the Preparing for the Profession module to get started. Use the What’s Next checklist in your Intern Portal to keep track of your progress.

  • Complete all Pre-Service Online Training Courses marked required
  • Complete one of the following courses: Reading for Secondary Teacher or Reading for Elementary Teacher marked with a double asterisk (ex. **Reading for Secondary Teacher OR **Reading for the Elementary Teacher)
  • Complete 30 Field-Based Experience (FBE) Hours

Once you have completed all requirements, confirm they have been checked off on your What’s Next Checklist and request your SOE at SOERequest@TexasTeachers.orgPlease include your full name and the content area(s) you are requesting on the SOE.

This is not required if you’re a #QuickHire.

Begin looking for teaching positions immediately after passing your certification exam(s). Expand your search to within an hour commute from your residence to give yourself plenty of options. Remember that once you complete your first year teaching, you will be able to teach anywhere in Texas! Your Pre-Service (training and FBEs) does not need to be fully complete to begin your job search, but keep working on it while you are looking, and be able to explain where you are at in your Pre-Service to a potential employer. Use our job search resources to help you prepare – submit your resume for review, watch our seminar, attend our webinars, follow our guide to preparing your portfolio, and practice interviewing using our sample questions.

Start your first year teaching with full support. Once you are hired, you will begin teaching with full pay, full benefits, and full support. You receive guidance from your Texas Teachers Field Supervisor, an experienced educator who will visit your classroom 5 times throughout the year, and is always on call to answer your questions. Click here to learn more about the requirements during your Internship Year.

Prepare to pass your certification exam(s). Our Test Prep modules will give you a leg up on passing your exam(s), and our free study resources give you that extra boost. Register for your exam(s) as soon as possible to reserve your desired date/time. Make sure you have fully prepared yourself for the correct exam, as TEA rules state you must wait 45 days until you can take another one. Use all of our resources to your advantage! The content exams will need to be completed during your first year of teaching.
