Get Ready to Start Teaching This Year!

Right now is the perfect time to start our program and complete the requirements to start your dream job this fall. If you’re ready to become a teacher in Texas, just follow the steps below.

Steps to Become Eligible For Hire!

If you haven’t already, submit your application. A Program Advisor will call you to conduct a phone interview and assist you in choosing the area(s) that best match your skills and interests.

Send your official transcripts to Texas Teachers either by mail or by eSCRIP-SAFE (if offered by your institution) as soon as you submit your application.

Check your email for receipt of your Offer of Admission. Click the link in the email to accept your admission offer, and then pay your enrollment fee. Once payment is made you will receive a Canvas training login in your email.

Prepare to pass your certification test(s) by first completing your required test prep module(s) and our free study resources give you that extra boost. Make sure you have chosen a desirable subject area to help you get hired. We recommend at least 2-3 weeks to study for your content test.

Register for your test as soon as possible to make sure you get your desired spot. If you do not pass on the first try, TEA imposes a 30-day waiting period to try again. Use all of our resources to your advantage and get ready to pass your exam(s) on the first try!

Steps to Get Hired

Start your training right away. Once your enrollment fee is paid, you can log into your Intern Portal and begin the Preparing for the Profession module to get started.

Complete your FBEs. Watch the 30 observation hours to get started on your Field Based Experience (FBEs) requirement.  15 hours can be completed on-campus at  your local school district.

The newly adopted provisions of the 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 228, Requirements for Educator Preparation Programs are effective September 1, 2024. To ensure our compliance with these new requirements and the expectations related to Field-Based Experiences (FBEs), any candidate who has not obtained an intern certificate by 9/1/24 must complete 50 total FBE hours. Contact your Program Advisor for more information.

Begin looking for teaching positions immediately after passing your certification exam(s). Use our job search resources to help you prepare – submit your resume for review, watch our seminar, attend our webinars, follow our guide to preparing your portfolio, and practice interviewing using our sample questions.

While you are conducting your job search using our many resources, you can go ahead and apply for your Intern Certificate through TEA and complete your fingerprinting as part of that process.

Start your first year teaching with full support. Once you are hired, you will begin teaching with full pay, full benefits, and full support. You receive guidance from your Texas Teachers Field Supervisor, an experienced educator who will visit your classroom 5 times throughout the year and is always on-call to answer your questions. Click here to learn more about the requirements during your Internship Year.
