Study Strategy

I used education-portal.com's study guide for this test. Almost timed it right to do it all on the free trial version but needed it an extra day and had to pay for it. Dang! Also reviewed some economic principles on Kahn Academy. The bulk of my studying was watching the education portal videos for 3 hours while driving to my test site. I will be using the site again to take future content tests. I liked the video format, felt a little more engaging than just reading a printed guide.

Testing Strategy

There were a few common sense questions and I felt like the rest was all covered by the study guide on education portal. I do consider myself a good test taker in general, typically I retain studied info like this pretty well, at least long enough to pass the test. I passed with 85%, not too terrible for graduating college over 12 years ago. Good Luck!!

I purchased Mometrix "Secrets" Study Guide for an insane $55!!! It has lots of typo and even an incorrect test question answer! In the end I'm not sure it helped. I have an MBA and 30 years in private business. The topics are so broad studying is difficult. Much of it I learned by living through it.

Testing Strategy

100 Computer questions. Some of the technology questions are OLD! The test needs updating. I thought it was easy but a younger person who doesn't have the "history" might find it harder. I scored a 269 and felt I did OK after the test.

Study Strategy

276: There are not many study resources for this exam. I relied HEAVILY on the materials provided by the testing website and I refreshed myself on the basics of Accounting on YouTube. The good news is most of those 40 questions are on the test in different wording. The bad news is, they don't cover everything. So what should you study? THE BASICS! And I mean that literally. As the previous comments stated, this test is simple if you have any business experience at all (which I do).

Testing Strategy

276: Honestly on the day of the test, I was not sure what to expect. However, the first question on the test was so easy I was shocked. And it didn't get much harder. I believe the hardest part of taking this test was not to rush it and read what is written. This test is littered with phrasing to trip you up because thinking of 100 questions for business test is not easy. I had five accounting equations on the entire exam; the rest was knowledge. This is easy to over study! Know your basic accounting: a balance sheet, how to calculate debt ratios from a balance sheet, your basic accounting equation, accounts receivable versus accounts payable, what a promissory note is, what is exchanged on the stock market, etc. Know the basic use of software (when do you use templates, when do you use a database (which one payroll, excel etc)) and understand different types of inventory and when to use them. Know the basics of the Internet: what is a URL, what is LPN, how do encryption keys work, what is a database, what is a user interface, etc. Understand the basics of International Business: when should you get into a market, when should you pull out, how do taxes work on International Business. Know your different types of businesses (sole, partnership, joint venture, corporation) and the advantages and disadvantages. Understand basic editing, cut and paste, insert, PowerPoint. Know your business laws (civil rights, labor), which departments protects businesses, what they protect, what foundations are out there and their purpose. Again, I stress the hardest part is not to rush and read the wording. You do that you can pass the first time like I did! Good luck!

Study Strategy

My first strategy was to buy an Introduction to Business textbook and start reading; the state practice test was so general in nature. I was about halfway through the textbook when I realized that what I was reading did not really tie that well to the Domains that the test covers. I gave Study.com a second chance. The first time I had filtered by Business and wasn't impressed. The second time I filtered by the TExES Exam, then by Business and I found what I thought was a goldmine. I read all 177 short modules. I also copied and pasted the summaries of each module onto a Word document for reviewing and made my own flashcards. The strategy was modestly successful.

Testing Strategy

I took my time and finished in two hours. I walked out having no idea if I passed or not. We are pledged to secrecy regarding the specific questions, otherwise I would provide an analysis in this space. I passed the test with a 259 score. I think the studying may have helped with 1/3 of the test. 21% of the test is IT and 18% is Leadership and Career Development. So the more you know technology and software, the better off you are. I don't know how you study for Career Development. I just used my work background and common sense.

Study Strategy

I did not study.

Testing Strategy

I used my practical experience to get through the test. It took me about an hour and a half. I did not over think the questions or go back over them. I relied on my personal knowledge and it got me through.

Study Strategy

I used Study.com and the Mometrix study guide. I didn't take any practice exams until I covered all the material. I recommend having at least two study guides, because one study guide will not have everything.

Testing Strategy

The test was easier than I expected, but not a piece of cake. Once my nerves calmed down, I was able to shoot right through the test. I was able to correctly guess the answer to questions I didn't know by dissecting the question and relying on my knowledge of the terminology. Knowing the vocabulary is very important. I passed the first time around.

Study Strategy

I used the ‘Secrets to the TEXES’ study guide. This guide had many typos which was a bit distracting while studying. This guide did not cover enough about accounting. I watched some youtube videos to brush up on my accounting. I studied for about a week before the test. I minored in Business in college and worked in banking for several years so I was familiar with the ethics and financial aspects of the test.

Testing Strategy

The test had sections I was clueless on and sections where I could answer without a doubt in my mind. The accounting questions were hard for me. I did not find the technology questions outdated, in fact, I found them to be a bit difficult from a business standpoint. Make sure you know technical terms! Process of elimination is your best friend, use it! The test wasn't too bad. I finished in about 2 hours and passed!
