Study Strategy

I used the free state manual and the Xam book that my campus luckily had at the library. Since I'm a Kinesiology major, all I had to do was brush up on a lot of stuff. I did a two a day studying on the week of the test. I'm not very good at test taking, but it's always better to over prepare than to not be prepared

Testing Strategy

The test wasn't that hard because it mostly had situational questions and a few Kinesiology questions. Once you brush up on your Kinesiology, it's all second nature. But make sure to read the questions, Mark and review the answers your not sure of, and when in doubt....guess and go with your gut. Stay focused and ready no matter what!

Good luck whoever is reading this - relax and get a good night's rest before the test and have at least a week of 8-12 hours of studying!!!!

Study Strategy

I used the test prep manual and flash cards from Quizlet. I also focused a lot on learning the test taking strategies offered in the manual. I feel like the test taking strategies were the most beneficial. I also had an administrator from my school give me some test taking strategies that she used and found them very helpful. If I were to take it again, I would focus on learning strategies from people that have taken similar tests in the past.

Testing Strategy

It was about as difficult as I had expected. I would suggest learning test taking strategies. One that helped me the most was to go through the test and answer the ones they knew for sure and skip all others. This allows you to not get frustrated on one question distracting you from the other questions. After going through all the questionsm go on to the ones you skipped and rule out the obvious wrong answers.

I used the study guide that is provided by ETS, and I also used the Praxis Health, and Physical education study guide. Although the Praxis study guide questions are not in the same format as the ETS study guide, I found that it was extremely helpful. I looked over both study guides, and I looked over each compentcy. I found that if you study this material, along with information that you have from school, you should be ok. I didn't study as much for this test, but before I took the test I looked over my text book "Teaching Secondary Education health and P.E. I wished I would have studied with this book from the beginning. As I was reading the question, I was remembering the things that I looked over the night before.

Testing Strategy

Make sure that you read each question carefully, and make sure you choose the best possible answers. Go over the little things that you wouldn't think would be on the test. I found the test was easier than I expected. I normally do not do well on standardized test, and I was excited that I passed.

Study Strategy

I bought Pass the TExES by Ed Publishing. I thought it would be sufficient, but then I also bought XAM PE, and it went much more in depth. The Ed Pub. study guide underprepared me, but the XAM was a little too detailed. However, if I hadn't had the XAM, I would have missed a lot more questions. I would definately recommend the XAM study guide. Better to be overprepared than underprepared.

Testing Strategy

It was about what I had expected. I would say just pay attention to what the question is really asking. More than one answer is correct, but only one is the BEST answer. A lot of it was common sense, but a lot you really had to think about.

Strategy 5

Study Strategy

I bought the TeXes study manual and it was a good reference to study from. The book broke down each domain and gave example that was very heplpful.

Testing Strategy

I think the test wasnt hard, just some question made you think a little harder.

Strategy 6

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the free SBEC study guide and I also bought a study guide called Pass the TExES. The Pass the TExES manual is good for a quick, very basic book. I would study more kinesilogy and review muscle groups, along with situation strategies.

Testing Strategy

The test was much harder than I expected. I would tell someone not to take it for granted and refresh on as much kinesiology as possible.

Strategy 7

Study Strategy

I used the online test prep manual.

Testing Strategy

Easier than I expected. Think "theoretical" if you have prior teaching experience.

Strategy 8

Study Strategy

I used the free sample one online. It was pretty easy a lot of scenerio stuff.

Testing Strategy

It was easier than I expected. The basic kinesiology stuff was there but a lot was classroom scenerios.

Strategy 9

Study Strategy

Study materials - online free test guides (practice exams) and a study guide. The online practice test worked the best. I would study differently by starting earlier than normal and having more materials. I would tell someone to cover all areas of subject (broad range of concepts).

Testing Strategy

It was harder than I thought it would be. Give yourself plenty of time to study. Eat a healthy meal before you test with plenty of time beforehand.

Strategy 10

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I studied the TExES study guide. Narrow down individual info for each grade level and know the different competencies.

Testing Strategy

More confusing than I thought - know some general teaching concepts.

Strategy 11

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I studied the preparation manuals. It's important to know the various stretching techniques (such as ballistic, static, etc...). Their is usually at least one dance question. Also, review heart rate questions as well. Take your time and be patient. A lot of it is common sense , but you do have to think a lot on many of them.

Testing Strategy

Usually colleges have online study questions as well. Just search for them on the internet.

Strategy 12

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

The study guides provided on the SBEC website plus information from colleagues.

Testing Strategy

Need to relax. Don't be nervous. Read the questions several times to find what they are really looking for. If your having trouble, skip the questions that are giving you problem and come back to them later.

Strategy 13

Study Strategy

Kinesiology and related majors need not worry. Studied the TEXES ebook. Fairly useful in showing how the questions were formatted.

Testing Strategy

Easier than expected. Don't be nervous.

Strategy 14

Study Strategy

I used various tests from other states. I also used the comments from this sight as well. I used a physical education book from half price books.

Testing Strategy

test was pretty easy once I calmed down and focused and read each question I came to find out that it was pretty easy. I scored a 259 on the exam. When you go take it just remember it is common sense read each question.

Strategy 15

Study Strategy

I used state study guides from several different states and Certify Teacher software. All of the study materials worked great and played a major role in my success. I used a three day rotation, day 1 I focused on Certify Teacher study guide, day 2 I focused on state study guides, and day 3 I focused on Certify Teacher final exam. I studied the note cards everyday. I had 3 weeks to prep for the exam and was ready to go after 1.5 weeks. Final score was 270 out of 300.

Testing Strategy

Easier than I expected. I highly recommend the Certify Teacher software. Take your time and read the questions! Read the question then read the first answer, read the question then read the second answer, etc.

Strategy 16

Study Strategy

If you have any background at all in this field, then you will be fine.

Testing Strategy

Mostly common sense and teaching strategies. There are some questions over adaptive P.E. Relax, most of your answers will be what comes to mind first.

Strategy 17

Study Strategy

I used the downloadable study guide from certifyteacher.com. It is one of the suggested study aides on this website. It helped a ton because you can take quizes and a pre test to see where you stand. It also gives you 120 flash cards, and I just glanced through those. This program was worth the $60 I paid for the it. I studied for 3 days before the exam and did just fine. I also reffered to the peteacher.com website.

Testing Strategy

The test was pretty much what I expected it to be. As long as you have general knowledge of the content you should be fine.

Strategy 18

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

Study with a friend who has passed the test. Get with someone who took the test in the last six months and study with them.

Testing Strategy

Easier than I expected. Take your time and stay focused.

Strategy 19

Study Strategy

TEXES study guide, doing the practice test, made note cards (would have done differently), and took practice test first to see weaknesses and study accordingly.

Testing Strategy

Easier than I expected. Answer question on test then go back and put on answer sheet later. Double/triple check answers on test with answer sheet.

Strategy 20

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

The study materials I used were the preparation material on the website, and I also did a practice test at UTSA.

Testing Strategy

It was easier than what I expected. The practice test at UTSA was harder than the real test. Make sure to read the questions carefully, sometimes they contain hints.

Strategy 21

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the state prep manual. After taking the test, I'd say it wasn't a good study guide.

Testing Strategy

The test was very different than I expected. It was pretty specific. I would say to look very closely at the TEKS. Several questions focused on grade level specific movements. There were also several PPR type questions. My best advice is to be very comfortable with the TEKS and Domains in the guide before taking it.

I used the xam study guide book, and it was definitley worth the money. There is a lot of useful information in it. I think as long as you read through a study guide for this test there's not going to be anything that pops up and surprises you on testing day.

Testing Strategy

The test was much easier the expected. Make sure to just relax and read each question carefully. There not trying to trick you, so if you just read the questions and all the choices the answer generally jumps right out at you! Good luck If you have any questions: bxskinner19@gmail.com

Strategy 25

Study Strategy

I used the free online study guide and googled the competencies. There was material that cam up from my search. I just studied those along with understanding the terms in the guide. I only studied a few days, but I have been a certified personal trainer for over 6 years.

Testing Strategy

I took my time and read every question. I marked the questions I wanted to come back to. If you can eliminate the wrong, you have a better chance of getting them right. It wasn't as bad as I imagined.

Strategy 26

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the TExES Preperation Manual, as well as the XAMonline P.E. book (bought on Amazon for $15.00). Both worked good, some areas were common sense, but the motor/movement skills and health related portions were beneficial.

Testing Strategy

The test was much different than I anticipated after studying the tools I had. It was a bit harder than I thought it would be, but I passed on the first attempt. Make sure you read the questions thoroughly to see what they are really asking for.

Strategy 27

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

What I used to study for the test was the ETS free test guide and youtube videos based on the competencies. What I did was read the competencies and I looked up the important vocabulary words on youtube. I am more of a visual learner so I prefer to see it then google it for a better understanding.

Testing Strategy

taking the test was a bit challenging because i just studied the day before the test and also the day of the test for about an hour. Overall, it was ok but what did help was studying the cognitive, social, and emotional development in depth and also figuring out how to implement all the definitions from competencies into a scenario. I was blessed to pass it the first time and with little preparation, but the stuff that I did study happen to be very helpful as well.

Strategy 28

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the free online study guide. I went through each topic and made sure I knew the necessary vocabulary for each and how each concept related to the PE class. It is all about relating the topics to an actual situation.

Testing Strategy

Way easier than I thought. If you know the words and definitions within each concept and know how to integrate that into a class you'll be fine.

Strategy 29

Study Strategy

I used a couple of free test samples that you can pull offline. They were fine for being free. I also bought the Xamoline TEXES PE book which had a great practice test. I felt this was extremely helpful. I did a practice test on certifyteacher as well, which was good. There are a ton of useful tests but they do cost. I only did one and I did it the night before because I felt I just needed to. I also bought an Ibook (TEXES PE Secrets Study Guide). I did not find this useful, although it does have a decent practice test. Overall, all these practice tests were different from each other. To do it all over, I wouldn't have bought the ibook. I'd still have bought the Xamonline book and may have utilized certifyteacher.com more too.

Testing Strategy

I felt the test was easier than expected. I had taken so many different types of practice tests and I didn't know which one was more like the real test. I feel like the Xamonline book helped a lot. I passed the first time with a 274/300.

Strategy 30

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the TExES Physical Education EC-12 Preparation Manual to see all of the content that the test would cover. I didn't see very many positive reviews on expensive study guide books so I chose to research the material myself through Google. I found one website to be very helpful as a guide at https://quizlet.com/44849824/texes-physical-education-ec-12-158-flash-cards/. This covered most of, if not everything, on the actual exam. You can find a few free online practice exams; however, I would study the content thoroughly before even taking those exams. I made the mistake of doing a couple of practice exams online before studying to see how much knowledge I remembered from college 7 years ago. Then, I tried to find more practice exams to see how I would do after studying, but quickly learned that the amount of online practice exams is very limited. You'll see that there are hundreds of websites with the same practice exam.

Testing Strategy

I found the exam a little more challenging than expected, but I did pass on my first attempt. However much effort you put into studying reflects the difficulty of the exam. The Preparation Manual is a great example of the type of questions asked on the exam. Just study all of the competencies as I guarantee that the exam will ask you a bunch of questions on the material you choose to skip or skim over. Take your time when reading the questions on the exam; sometimes the wording may try to confuse you. Use your common sense and choose the best answer. Good luck!

Strategy 31

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used Xamonline and a few free online practice guides. If you went to school for Kinesiology / Exercise Science then you will be fine. The Xamonline book had a lot of errors in the book but it was a nice study guide. I wouldn't only rely on this for studying.

Testing Strategy

There was questions regarding movement such as Flexion, Extension and Mature Movements. I read the question then read each answer separately then picked the best one. Take your time and do not second guess your gut feeling. I passed the first time with a 265. Good Luck!!

Strategy 32

Study Strategy

I used the Certify Teacher downloadable software. It helped me because it allows you to take quizzes and tests that are close to the actual state test. I studied for two days and for a few hours the day of the test. The software also has 120 flashcards that are quite helpful.

Testing Strategy

I just recently graduated with an Exercise Science degree, so the test seemed fairly easy. You just need to remember to take your time and don't be nervous. I hate taking tests, so I was nervous going into it but once I started the test I calmed down. There were a couple of problems I had trouble figuring out, so instead of stressing about them I wrote down the question number and made sure to go back at the end and look it over. Take your time and read through the questions several times before you pick an answer, so you know and understand what the question is asking you.

Strategy 33

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I studied for the test for two weeks prior to the test. I used the Xamonline book and I thought it was great and very detailed. I used certify teacher for the last 4 days and the test was very close to this type of questions. Also took the practice test through the prep manual on ETS. If you do not understand a term, look up the website http://www.teachpe.com.

Testing Strategy

I took the test in the morning so the night before I studied the flashcards on certify teacher for an hour and was set. Do not cram for this test, just use your common sense and pick a student oriented answer. Get a good nights rest and do not be nervous, go through the test at least twice and try to visualize everything.

Strategy 34

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used the book XAMonline (not actually online). The book was extremely disappointing and was filled with typos. NOT worth the money. I would say about 40% of the book was relevant to the actual test, although the practice test was good. I searched online for practice tests and I must say, I really freaked out when I went to texesprep.com and looked at those practice tests because the questions were mostly things that had nothing to do with what I had been studying in the book. DO NOT FRET! The test was nothing like that and so do NOT pay money for those practice tests.

Testing Strategy

For some background, I only took this test because I thought it was going to be an in at a specific school. I enjoy sports, but I am horrible at them and am not an expert on all of the rules and terminology of the different sports. I have never taken an anatomy class and do not have any science background. I got a 256. I thought the test was really hard, but I still managed to do very well. There were a lot of questions about mature movements and how you would modify class activities for people with special needs. I can't recommend any specific study materials since I didn't like mine, but take your time, visualize the movements in your head, and you should do fine! I left the test thinking I bombed it, but I did very well!

Strategy 35

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

XAM TExES book worked well for teacher oriented questions. School library should have them.

Testing Strategy

The test was pretty easy. Study up on Biomechanics, and read the questions twice and see what there looking for.

Strategy 36

Study Strategy

I studied for about 3 weeks. I used the Xam online Study Guide. The Xam online study guide questions are very true to the test. 2 days before the exam I paid $55 for the certify teacher online access. The practice exams were helpful. I did the tests 3 times and it was worth the $55.

Testing Strategy

The test was about what I expected. Repeating the practice exam in the Xam online book will help with the test. Take your time and read the questions carefully. There will be more than one correct answer. Choose the best answer.

Strategy 37

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

To study for the test I utilized the Certify Teacher Software and it was very helpful in helping me pass the test. Also, I purchased the XAM online book, it helped a little but I wouldn't recommend it.

Testing Strategy

This test is all dealing with common sense. Make sure you study and brush up on things if you're a Kines major. I passed with a 255. My test day was on a Friday and I received my results the following Tuesday. Good Luck to you!

Strategy 38

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I studied the practice questions and the vocabulary on CertifyTeacher.com, in addition to the vocabulary on Quizlet.com. Both exam preparation materials were extremely helpful for me on the test. On Certify Teacher, I studied each competency each day for a month, in addition to completing the practice test, which had similar questions to the actual test. I also read through the Certify Teacher vocabulary until I felt very prepared. I read the Quizlet vocabulary words daily.

Testing Strategy

Just take your time, be patient, use common sense and you will do well. Extensive Preparation Is the Key!

Strategy 39

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I Googled the major concept ideas that were going to be on the test. I reviewed the competencies from the TExES prep manual and got an understanding of those. All of this took only 2 days, 2 hours each day. This test isn't difficult, so don't kill yourself studying.

Testing Strategy

It was pretty much what I expected. Like the other reviews state, if you have a background in sports, or majored in any related topic, the test will be easy. I scored a 290 while only studying for 4 hours, and I'm not the most knowledgeable on this topic.

Strategy 40

Submitted by Texas Teachers

Study Strategy

I used flash cards and the test from www.certifyteacher.com. The test worked best for me, because it was as close to the test as you can get. If I could do it over, I would trash the flash cards. I would study movements, dance, and sports.

Testing Strategy

I thought the test seemed fairly easy, but was having second thoughts until I received my score. I passed and actually scored pretty high. During the test, mark answers you are unsure of and go back and look them over.
