Study Strategy
I really struggled to find prep materials for the new Technology Applications 242 test. I went through the state prep materials and used the free materials from Jim Beckas. I looked at the Quizlet terms, but really prefer sample tests when I prep. I bought a Tech Ed 171 practice test from ExamEdge and wish they offered one for Tech Apps 242.
I have a background in communications, so I am comfortable with design for print and web. I knew my weakness was in animation/video production, but really struggled to find materials that matched the sample questions.
Testing Strategy
I was very frustrated by the test, but passed with a score of 269. I felt like the questions were not worded clearly and I was not always clear what they were asking.
My strategy was to go through and first answer the questions that were easier. Then I went through everything again to answer those I skipped and double-check the rest. At that point, I marked any I wasn't sure about. I knew that I could probably miss up to 19 questions, so I left feeling that I probably passed.
I really wish there were better resources for this test. Even with experience in the real world and teaching graphics, I really struggled with the questions on this test. And I am generally comfortable with multiple-choice tests. (I will also mention that the testing room was TINY and stuffy. I have a bit of claustrophobia, so I will be more prepared next time.)
