In an effort to keep our districts informed about the latest TEA requirements regarding our candidates, we’ve put together a snapshot of the “4-hour Rule.”

According to TEA, any internship assignment shall not be less than an average of (4) hours each day in the subject area and grade level of certification being sought. Any candidate seeking certification will be required to meet this requirement, regardless of how the district/campus schedule is structured. Conference and planning periods cannot be included in the 4-hour calculation.

Any candidate who is not meeting this requirement, may be subject to a delay in their certification, which could result in them needing to complete an additional internship, pay additional fees, etc.
