Celebrating 20 Years of Educator Impact
In this edition of our “20 Years, 20 Stories” series, we highlight La Rhon Fields—an accomplished Texas educator whose journey began in the world of business but truly took root in the classroom. After earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration, La Rhon felt a deeper pull toward helping others. He joined Teachers of Tomorrow in 2006 and became a certified teacher in 2008, embarking on a meaningful career that blends real-world insight with a passion for student success.
Meet La Rhon Fields
Teaches: Business & Entrepreneurship, Grades 11–12
State: Texas
Program Completed: 2008
From Business to the Classroom
La Rhon completed his BBA knowing he had a strong foundation in leadership and entrepreneurship—but it was his desire to make an impact that shifted his direction.
“I was inspired to become a teacher because I love helping others achieve academic and life success,” he shares.
He discovered the Teachers of Tomorrow program while working in education and knew it was the right next step.
“Teachers of Tomorrow helped me bridge the gap between real-world knowledge and classroom management and academic preparedness for students.”
By 2008, he was officially certified and began teaching full time—bringing both his expertise and mentorship mindset into the classroom.
Building Trust, Earning Respect
Starting out, La Rhon focused on more than just curriculum—he knew student relationships came first.
“As a new teacher, one of my fondest memories is making real connections with my first group of students by showing them that I cared about them, their daily lives, and future lives.”
It didn’t happen overnight.
“After about a month of being their teacher and me being consistent with them, I gained their acceptance. From that moment on we formed a bond that lasts until this very day.”
That early experience shaped his philosophy: students succeed when they feel seen, supported, and understood.
Then and Now
Today, La Rhon teaches entrepreneurship to high school students, preparing them for real-life challenges with practical, future-ready skills. He has continued growing in his own professional development as well, earning a Master of Business Administration to deepen his understanding of the field he now teaches.
Looking back, he reflects on how much the classroom has evolved.
“Technology has definitely increased and textbooks have reduced,” he notes. “Other than that, there’s more alignment for student success post high school.”
But one thing has remained constant: the importance of educators who care.
Finding Meaning in the Little Things
For La Rhon, the motivation to keep going comes in small, powerful moments.
“This may sound cliché, but it’s the little things—impacting a student’s life by empowering them to be the best version of themselves and seeing them grow.”
Whether it’s guiding a student through a project, helping them discover their voice, or simply being a steady presence, he shows up every day with the same purpose: to make a difference.
Words to Future Teachers
La Rhon believes the heart of teaching lies in recognizing the responsibility that comes with it.
“My best advice is to understand that this job is not just a job—it is a responsibility, no matter the subject area you teach. We are responsible for shaping the future of the world.”
And he reminds aspiring educators that authenticity matters.
“As long as you understand that, and know that students thrive off of genuine teachers, everything is a bonus.”
