FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOUSTON – Teachers of Tomorrow released its annual Social Impact Report, which details the organization’s efforts to address the ongoing teacher shortage and expand pathways into the profession. The report highlights achievements, data-driven results, and real stories from teachers and school partners who have benefited from the program.
Understanding the Teacher Shortage Crisis
The U.S. is experiencing one of the most severe teacher shortages in history, with classrooms across the country, particularly in critical subject areas and underserved communities, going without fully certified teachers. There are more than 410,000 teaching positions nationwide that are unfilled or filled by uncertified educators. The most severe shortages are in special education, science, and math and disproportionately impact high-poverty schools and schools serving students of color.
“The teacher shortage is a daily reality for schools across the country,” said Dr. Heath Morrison, former superintendent and CEO of Teachers of Tomorrow. “This report highlights how alternative certification can be a powerful, immediate solution, preparing qualified teachers to step into high‑need classrooms and make a lasting impact.”
Key Stats from Teachers of Tomorrow’s Social Impact Report
During the 2024-2025 school year, Teachers of Tomorrow impacted key areas of the teacher shortage:
- 45,117candidates enrolled across several states with 7,629 new teachers certified
- 47.6% minority candidate representation in the Teachers of Tomorrow program
- 1,266 teachers certified in critical areas of Special Education and STEM
- Nearly145,000 students taught by newly certified teachers from the Teachers of Tomorrow program
“This year’s Social Impact Report underscores what’s possible when we intentionally remove barriers to entering the teaching profession,” said Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, Superintendent in Residence at Teachers of Tomorrow. “By expanding access to certification and supporting candidates from diverse backgrounds, we are building a stronger, more sustainable educator workforce for the future.”
