It has been a great year for Michigan Teachers of Tomorrow. We only just started in 2017 but have really come a long way towards helping solve the teacher shortage in Michigan and make sure every school has the teachers they need – from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula!
So far this year from Michigan Teachers –
- We had over 4,731 people inquire about becoming a Michigan Teacher!
- 1,901 new applicants to become a Michigan Teacher
- 417 new teacher candidates have enrolled in our Michigan Interim Teaching Certificate program
- 220 new teachers have been hired as Michigan Teachers in 2019 – for a total in the program of 334 since the program started!
We are very proud of the work we have done in Michigan and look forward to significantly increasing the number new teachers next year.
Among the teachers we have certified – over half are in high needs areas like STEM and ELL.
And, as required by Michigan law, we are working on our national accreditation for teaching programs. We will have our site visit by AAQEP in 2020 which push us on track for national accreditation by 2021.
The latest report on the teacher shortages found that Michigan ranked as having one of the highest drops in educator preparation enrollments in the country. Michigan Teachers is working hard to make sure that trend starts going in the right direction.
On to 2020!!
