New Clear Path To Becoming a Teacher!
January 27th, 2020 – Today is the day TEA implements changes to the teacher certification process. Rest assured that Texas Teachers remains ready and happily able to help you navigate these new regulations. After researching the details on TEA’s admission and certification updates – we feel confident that most candidates will have 12 hours of core content within their transcripts and major; which will negate the need for a content test prior to admission (otherwise known as a Pre-Admission Contest Test / PACT Exam). For those that don’t have the required 12 hours on their transcript – the new TeXES content tests will be required. The best advice, for now, is to complete a free application and send in official transcripts for us to review so we can help you get started on the path to your teaching career today!
Below you will find an excerpt from the new TEA Requirements:
(4) ) For an applicant who will be seeking an initial certificate in the classroom teacher class of certificate, the applicant shall have successfully completed, prior to admission, at least:
(A) a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in the subject-specific content area for the certification sought unless certification sought is for mathematics or science at or above Grade 7; or
(B) 15 semester credit hours in the subject-specific content area for the certification sought if the certification sought is for mathematics or science at or above Grade 7; or
(C) a passing score on the appropriate content certification examination (PACT) as specified in the figure provided in this subparagraph for the calendar year during which the applicant seeks admission. The applicant will not be required to successfully complete a passing score on the appropriate content certification examination until January 27, 2020.
Our district HR partners tell us that our Texas Teachers have GRIT* – and those are the teachers who truly succeed in teaching. It’s time to show TEA that you the grit to become a great teacher.
