Teacher Reciprocity: How To Guide

What is Teacher Reciprocity?

Are you a certified teacher considering a move to another state? One of the first questions you might have is whether your teaching certification will be accepted in the new state. This concept is known as “Reciprocity”. In simple terms, reciprocity means that if a state has agreements in place, they may recognize and accept your current teaching certificate from another state.

It’s worth noting that reciprocity isn’t universally applied across all states. To verify reciprocity for a particular state, the most direct approach is to consult that state’s department of education website or contact them directly. Additionally, for a comprehensive overview, Teachers of Tomorrow offers a resource detailing which states have reciprocity agreements. Don't Forget

Each department of education has a slightly different way of doing things; so depending on the state you’re moving to/from, reciprocity may or may not be offered. We recommended checking the state department of education website and/or contacting the department of education in regards to if they offer reciprocity.
